Dr. Oz details natural pain killers for back pain, migraines and headaches - National Celebrity Fitness and Health

Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed inexpensive, drug-free pain remedies on the March 13 episode of the Dr. Oz Show ("Natural Pain Killers That Work"). *This episode originally aired Jan. 28.

Corydalis for Joint and Back Pain

Dr. Oz's guest was acupuncturist Dr. Daniel Hsu, who said the plant Corydalis (also known as Chinese poppy) is an ancient Asian secret for relieving chronic pain.

Dr. Hsu said Corydalis contains the powerful pain killer dehydrocorybulbine (DHCB), which alleviates headaches, joint pain, backache and menstrual cramps. It releases dopamine in the brain, which causes feelings of well-being and happiness.

Dr. Hsu said Corydalis has no side effects and is not addictive. Unlike drugs, you don't develop a tolerance for Corydalis, so you don't have to keep taking larger and larger doses to remedy pain. Dr. Oz suggested taking three to nine grams of Corydalis two to three times a day.

Magnesium For Migraines, Butt Pillow For Back Pain

Dr. Oz said a drug-free remedy for back pain is a butt pillow, which is a horseshoe-shaped pillow that reduces pressure on the lower back, tailbone and hip bones. It's especially helpful for people who sit a lot. A less expensive but effective alternative is an orthopedic wedge cushion.

Meanwhile, an effective natural pain killer for migraines is magnesium citrate. Dr. Oz said over 50% of migraine sufferers have a magnesium deficiency. He suggests taking 400 to 600 mg of magnesium a day for migraine relief.

Magnesium has also been shown to reverse osteoporosis, prevent heart disease, regulate high blood pressure, treat diabetes, and promote restful sleep.

Not Removing Makeup at Night Ages Your Skin

On a separate segment of his show, Dr. Oz discussed the importance of removing your makeup every night before bedtime. Dr. Oz's guest was dermatologist Dr. Rosemarie Ingleton, who said sleeping in makeup causes acne and wrinkles.

Dr. Oz challenged one of his viewers to sleep in makeup for one week and report her results. The woman said after a week, her face felt itchy and dry and she looked 10 years older. Dr. Oz said if you don't want to wash your face, use a makeup remover wipe, which also moisturizes and tones your skin.
